Petite Sirah is never foremost on one’s mind while deciding on a wine for the occasion, but never ceases to please when uncorked and served to a willing public. The major appeal is the voluptuousness of the wine that this grape renders. It is typically dark, full-bodied, deeply fruited and briary with its tannins. What is there not to like in all that? To refresh your minds, Petite Sirah is the result of cross-pollination of the Syrah grape and the Peloursin grape plant in the nursery of the French Botanist, François Durif. Occasionally, you may find a bottling of wine from this grape with the name Durif. However named, it is a wonderful wine.
