Aromas of juicy peach, pear and a touch of lime first greet you from the glass. Carl Gunderloch founded the winery in 1890 and 5 generations later Agnes Gunderloch married winemaker Fritz Hasselack; Fritz, in turn, has bequeathed his son Johannes this thriving estate. So very European.

2012 Pfneiszl Vineyards Blaufrankisch, Hungary
List price 18.00; Our price 14.99
Wine & Spirits Magazine gave this wine a 90-point rating: “Birgit Pfneiszl grows this wine on the slate and sandstone hills just west of Lake Fertö (better known as Neusiedlersee across the border in Austria). Ujra Együtt (meaning “together again”) is a nod to the family’s reunification with the vineyards her grandparents left behind when they fled to Austria, where the family still makes wines under the name Pfneisl (no z).” This wine is farmed organically and vinified in stainless steel without added yeasts. It’s a lean, graceful Kékfrankos, (Blaufränkisch in Austria) with tart cherry fruit and a cool, stony minerality giving it length and firmness.
2016 Chateau de Parenchère Bordeau Superieur, France
List price 20.00; Our price 17.99
Sourced from 25-year-old vines, the wine shows red fruit aromas supported by a soft tannic structure. This wine should satisfy most Bordeaux lovers: it is full and fleshy with a strong underlying structure. It displays red fruit aromas of cassis and black cherry with elegantly soft tannins. There is a great balance between the ripe fruit expression and the wine’s freshness. Try it with grilled tenderloin.
