The Gallo family has made many acquisitions in Sonoma County including some fine wineries, as well. This Saturday we have Debra DeFarcey representing two of the fine wineries that have long been favorites of ours, MacMurray and Louis Martini. Along with the purchasing of these wineries came some of the best vineyards in Sonoma County including the famous Monte Rosso Vineyard of Martini. This vineyard, at 1200 feet altitude in the Mayacamas Mountains, was first planted in the 1880’s, and produces the incredible Gnarly Vine Zin.

2014 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma Co.
List price 20.00; Our price 15.99
90 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: “One of the best values in Cabernet Sauvignon anywhere in the world remains Louis Martini’s Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County is just a beautiful wine. Dense ruby/purple with classic tobacco leaf, blackcurrant, loamy soil notes and a touch of wood spice, this wine (aged 16 months in French and American oak) has relatively modest alcohol for Cabernets these days (13.5%). The wine has the suppleness and upfront charm to be drunk now and last, without losing its fruit, for another 7-10+ years. It is a great value.
2013 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander V.
List price 30.00; Our price 26.99
The Cab shows its blueberry and black cherry aromas and flavors. Notes of smoky cedar, dried herbs and licorice unfold around this wine’s assertive tannins that will soften with age. Rich and well-structured with a long, lingering finish, this wine is an ideal complement to earthy dishes, wild game and red meats.
2014 Louis M. Martini Zinfandel, Gnarly Vine, Monte Rosso
List price 55.00; Our price 49.00
This is a big, deep wine with intense aromas and a fusion of dark fruit flavors, including blackberry reduction and black currant. Those flavors blend with layers of spice notes ranging from fresh black peppercorns to clove. The wine is full-bodied, vibrant and robust, balanced by velvety tannins and distinctive minerality that is characteristic of Monte Rosso’s iron-rich volcanic soils. The extraordinarily long and luxurious finish adds rich hints of vanilla and molasses. Robert M. Parker Jr. gave this wine 95 points and called it “a full-bodied classic Zinfandel at its very best.” This is classic Zinfandel.
