Mea culpa. It is I who made the scheduling error thinking Cary Thrasher would be journeying from the winery in Paso Robles to join us last Saturday. Rather than cancel the event previously set for this Saturday I thought it would be interesting were we to get Cary to bring us other wines we ordinarily do not get through our distributor. Some of really fine Opolo wines are sold only at the winery or through the wine club, so this is going to be a great opportunity to sample, and to buy, some of the more exclusive wines produced there. We had an excellent turnout last week and perhaps we can reward Cary and the winery by doing as well Saturday.
Opolo Sparkling Wine, California
List price 14.00; Our price 11.99
Opolo's sparkling wine is refreshing, light golden in color and full of flavor with pronounced ribbons of bubbles. The palate holds effervescent notes of peach and apple that lead to a delightful finish. This is a good refreshing wine for simply sipping or for inclusion at parties.
2017 Opolo Rosé, Central Coast
List price 20.00; Our price 17.99
This French inspired blend of Grenache and Syrah shows watermelon, strawberry, and pomegranate juiciness balanced alongside lemon zest and red raspberry acidity. Fleshy and well rounded, this irresistible rosé proceeds to a lively and lengthy finish.
2013 Opolo Concerto, Paso Robles
List price 30.00; Our price 26.99
Concerto is a Bordeaux-style blend made from grapes sourced from the rolling hills of Paso Robles. Aging in French and American oak barrels highlights concentrated flavors of cherry and black current. Abundant soft tannins contribute to the long satisfying finish. There are subtle hints of tobacco, mint and leather. Rich flavors of black cherry and tea are surrounded by firm tannins in the mid palate and lead to a long satisfying finish.
2014 Opolo Rhapsody, Paso Robles
List price 45.00; Our price 39.00
Rhapsody is a Bordeaux style wine blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 66%), Merlot (20%) and Malbec (14%). It is decadently rich with intense aromas of blackberry, plum, mocha and tobacco that are framed with noticeable but well integrated tannins. This full-bodied wine is a great choice for continued aging. The wine received 91 Points from Wine Enthusiast and 90 points from Robert Parker Wine Advocate.
2017 Opolo Vineyards Summit Zinfandel, Paso Robles
List price 20.00; Our price 17.99
The grapes for this wine are sourced from nine vineyards in Paso Robles, an appellation famous for producing intense fruit forward zinfandels. Opolo has a specific winning hand when it comes to Zinfandel and this wine is another winner. It is big and fruit forward yet nuanced and elegant at the same time. Bold fruit flavors, velvety smooth tannins, and just the right amount of barrel age make it an enjoyable wine for any occasion.
2016 Opolo Mountain Zinfandel, Paso Robles
List price 24.00; Our price 19.99
This is the only repeat wine from last Saturday and is included here to offer a side-by-side comparison with the Summit Zin. It is the quintessential Paso Robles Zinfandel: decadently rich and fruit forward. It opens with rich aromas of raspberry, rhubarb and Bing cherry along with hints of vanilla, cedar and tealeaf. Flavors of dark plum and cherry are married with silky smooth tannins that lead into a long and jammy finish.
