This time we are sampling 3 Duckhorns from Napa Valley, 1 Goldeneye from Mendocino’s Anderson Valley and 2 wines from Calera Wine Company, the latest acquisition by the Duckhorn Company. All of these wines are spectacular and this is a great opportunity reacquaint yourselves with one of the best wineries, ever. To underscore this the classic-scoring Duckhorn Merlot Napa Valley Three Palms Vineyard from 2014 was Wine Spectator's 2017 Wine of the Year. 2016 Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley

Duckhorn has been making Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc since 1982. Harvested from their estates and select Napa Valley vineyards, this rich and elegant Sauvignon Blanc was blended with Sémillon to add depth and complexity. Fermented and aged using both stainless steel and French oak, it offers ripe citrus and tropical flavors, refreshing acidity and Sémillon-driven silkiness. Wine Spectator gives the wine a 90-point rating: "Elegant peach, melon and citrus flavors are juicy and plump, with a pretty floral vein and a sleek, crisp frame. A note of lemon verbena lingers.”

Crisp nectarine, apricot and brioche aromas meet hints of butter and lime in this clean and easy appellation blend from seven vineyards and four counties. The flavors are also familiar and pleasant, with key lime and lemon peel and a building acidity that carries those flavors deep into the finish.

The bouquet possesses a lovely mix of richness, fruit, and blackberry pie. On the palate, there are intriguing hints of rose, briar, red currant, violets, and spice. This Pinot has an alluring silky texture with deep flavors of black cherry, spice and a whisper of licorice. It’s nicely structured and lingers beautifully on the finish. It received 92 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: “The keenly priced 2015 Pinot Noir 40th Anniversary Vintage from Calera is lovely, wafting from the glass with youthfully complex aromas of potpourri, cherries, strawberry and spice. This Pinot is a wonderful wine garnering 91 points from Wine Enthusiast: “This is a full-bodied, ripe and mouth-filling wine that offers generous black-plum and black cherry flavors, a smooth texture and a lingering finish. 2014 Duckhorn Merlot, Napa Valley

Combining lovely structure and alluring appeal, this is a classic expression of Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot. Aromas of ripe cherry, plum and black fig rise from the glass, underscored by hints of leather and cedar. On the palate, it is lush and supple, with bright acidity and velvety tannins supporting layers of raspberry and black cherry, as well as hints of coffee and chocolate that carry through on the long finish. The blend is 88% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Wine Spectator rates this wine at 92 points: "Plush and rich-tasting, with finely interwoven flavors of dark cherry, plum tart and blackberry that are accented by cocoa powder notes.
