The Spiropoulos family’s vineyards are located on the Ancient Mantinia plateau in the central Peloponnese at an altitude of 650 meters, and in the vicinity of Ancient Nemea. Α total of over 86 acres of vineyards are cultivated with grapes ranging from Moschofilero, Agiorgitiko and Lagorthi, to Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah. Domaine Spiropoulos vineyards meets the “Organic Farming” requirements of the EU, and here to discuss the wines of Greece will be Apostolos Spiropoulos, winemaker for his family vineyards and winery. As a bonus you get to taste his wines as well.
2014 Domaine Spiropoulos Orino White Wine, Peloponnese

Careful cultivation, harvesting and processing of the Moschofilero and Roditis grapes from upland vineyards in the Peloponnese region result in a unique and richly characteristic product. The wine is very aromatic, with notes of rose on the palate and the subtle fruitiness of green apple, peach and banana flavors. The blend is Moschofilero (65%) and Roditis (35%).

The complex Moschofilero grape calls attention to its elegant and more distinctive dimension in this wine produced exclusively from selected organically grown grapes from the family-owned vineyards in the upland region of Mantinia. The grapes come from selected upland locations of the Peloponnese. Gentle processing of the Agiorgitiko and Syrah grapes, combined with a brief period of aging in French oak barrels, yields a fresh-tasting wine mellow and full-bodied, with flavors of red fruit and hints of caramel.
2011 Domaine Spiropoulos Red Stag, Nemea

A dry red wine made from 100% Agiorgitiko grape. After harvest and fermentation, the wine is racked two to three times before it is stored in new French oak barrels for twelve months and then is transferred to the bottle for an additional six months of aging before release. The Red Stag is a deep red color with soft tannins and a long finish. It has intense complex vanilla, toasted wood and berry aromas. It can be drunk now or over the next four years.

Apostolos’ organically cultivated vineyards in Nemea produce this lovely red showing hints of cherry, ripe red fruits, wood, vanilla and spices. The wine from Agiorgitiko grapes is aged in French barrels. It can be aged in bottle for at least more 5 years, or it can be enjoyed today.
