This Saturday we will be sampling some of the wines to have arrived this last week that reflect the need for lighter styles yet full flavored wines. In other words, we are not going to wimp out due to weather. There are many fine wines that work well given the outside temps and here are a few worthy of your tasting pleasure. As ever, we used the value consideration in making the selection of these beauties. Mostly, they simply taste real good.
2010 Amberhill Secret Blend White Wine, California
LIST PRICE 10.00; OUR PRICE 7.99
The floral notes intermingle aromatically with scents of orange blossom, jasmine and rose petal. On the palate, this refreshing wine offers flavors of honeysuckle, pineapple and Fuji apple with slight hints of melon and guava. A balanced acidity contributes to a lush, round mouth-feel and leads to a lasting, vibrant finish. The blend is Chardonnay, Muscat, and Sauvignon Blanc.
2008 Vine Hill Chardonnay, Clements Ridge Vineyard, California
LIST PRICE 16.00; OUR PRICE 9.99
This is a repeat from an earlier event because we have committed to another large purchase of this fine value.
The wine exhibits a nice minerality and firmness, showing a wide range of flavors, with tangy, tart grapefruit upfront, and finishing with a soft, sense of ripe banana. It displays a soft vanilla creaminess with a round, full mouthfeel, a result of fermenting and aging in primarily older French oak barrels. Partial malolactic fermentation preserves the natural acidity in the wine, making it refreshing and a delight to the palate. Enjoy with a wide range of seafood, from salmon to halibut and oysters to cracked crab. It received a SILVER MEDAL from the 2010 Critics Challenge International Competition.
2010 Robert Oatley Rosé of Sangiovese, Mudgee, Australia
LIST PRICE 13.00; OUR PRICE 10.99
The grapes for this wine are harvested at night and were treated as one would make an aromatic white; the Sangiovese grapes are kept cool and the juice immediately crushed off the skins to give the vibrant yet pale color. It has been deliberately made at the drier end of the rosé spectrum. It is a Provence-styled rosé marked by crisp strawberry and citrus flavors. Ending on a refreshing, slightly chalky-mineral note, this is indeed a fun summer sipper.
2010 Amberhill Secret Blend Red Wine, California
LIST PRICE 10.00; OUR PRICE 7.99
Expressive aromatics of Bing cherry and strawberry blend seamlessly with subtle notes of cedar, pepper and espresso bean. The wine is soft and round on the palate with candied fruit flavors leading to a long finish of sugar plum and black licorice. Perfect for barbeques, the Secret Blend Red is best when paired alongside grilled meats.
Fess Parker Winery Frontier Red Lot 122, California
LIST PRICE 10.00; OUR PRICE 8.99
Dark fruit aromas of black cherry, blackberry and black raspberry along with pepper jump from the glass at the first pour.
Added notes of sage, smoke, leather and vanilla complete this wonderful bouquet. Cranberry, black cherry and red currant combine with smoke and dark chocolate flavors that accentuate the sweet mid- palate and help produce a soft, velvety finish. This is an “everyday” red that works wonders at a barbeque. The blend is 40% Syrah, 20% Merlot, 18% Grenache, 9% Petite Sirah, 5% Mourvedre, 4% Cinsault, 2% Carignane and 2% Tempranillo.
2010 DeLoach Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
LIST PRICE 23.50; OUR PRICE 19.99
Enticing red berry fruit aromas blend with rhubarb and cola. Delicate notes of anise and baking spices lace the fruit to unfold a rich palate of black cherries supported by medium fine-grain tannins. The finish lingers with attractive subtle toasty undertones, fine acid, and excellent balance. We are tasting this deliciously elegant wine last because it is very difficult to surpass.
