This Saturday we are fortunate to have Natalie Hubbard representing Moet Hennessy USA for our wine tasting event. Moet is the producer of Dom Perignon, Domaine Ruinart, Moet Chandon and in California Domaine Chandon. Moet also represents Belvedere Vodka, Chateau d’Yqueum, Grand Marnier, Newton Winery and Veuve Clicquot, as well as many more iconic labels. We will begin with a couple of beautiful Champagnes, proceeding from there with wines representing the width and breadth of the company’s far flung empire.
Domaine Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Champagne, France
LIST PRICE 89.00 OUR PRICE 79.99
The wine has a fine and persistent mousse. The nose is clean and intense with warm, rich notes of brioche, French toast and roasted almonds. On the palate the wine is very supple and harmonious, with notes of honey and minerals on the long, sustained finish. Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is produced from a blend of 100% premiers crus Chardonnay grapes from the best of recent vintages. It received 93 points from Wine Spectator.
Veuve Clicquot Rosé Champagne, France
LIST PRICE 75.00; OUR PRICE 69.99
The nose is generous and elegant, with initial aromas of fresh red fruit (raspberry, wild strawberry, cherry, blackberry), leading to biscuit notes of dried fruits and Viennese pastries (almonds, apricots and brioche). The fresh attack is followed by a fruity harmonious sensation on the palate. The wine is perfectly balanced in the best Veuve Clicquot style of pink champagnes, combining elegance and flair. 91 points Wine Enthusiast.
2015 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand
LIST PRICE 32.00; OUR PRICE 28.99
Widely regarded as the quintessential expression of the acclaimed Marlborough wine region, Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is an international benchmark wine noted for its vibrant aromatics, layers of pure fruit flavors and fine structure.
2014 Cape Mentelle Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Australia
LIST PRICE 23.00; OUR PRICE 17.99
This blend of Sauvignon Blanc (58%) and Semillon (42%) was mostly most cold fermented in stainless steel, with 7% of the blend fermented in new and used French barriques. There is an array of citrus and tropical fruit aromas and flavors, especially limes, apples, lychee and honeydew melon framed by juicy acidity, providing great length.
2013 Domaine Chandon Pinot Meunier, Napa Valley
LIST PRICE 25.00; OUR PRICE 19.99
This varietal bottling is 100% Pinot Meunier and hard to distinguish from Pinot Noir. The varietal is rarely grown outside of Champagne and is often difficult to cultivate. Mostly a blending grape in sparkling wines, it sees limited exposure as a red still wine. It was aged for 10 months in 20% new French oak and shows pleasing bright cherry and raspberry aromas and flavors balanced with a subtle earthiness and well-integrated oak.
2012 Terrazas Malbec Reserve, Mendoza, Argentina
LIST PRICE 20.00; OUR PRICE 17.99
Full-bodied with a great structure, this wine stands out for its volume and silky mouth-feel. It is complex, boasting smooth, well-rounded tannins that give way to a long, lingering finish; a Malbec lover’s delight.
2012 Numanthia Termes, Toro, Spain
LIST PRICE 30.00; OUR PRICE 24.95
This Tinta de Toro (aka Tempranillo) shows savory aromas mixing black raspberries, spices (cola nut), with hints of granite and licorice. The palate shows good freshness with a fine balance between tannins, alcohol and acidity. Toasted notes with cedar and spice frame a richly layered, juicy texture on the palate. 90 points
