Iron Horse is one of Sonoma County’s most prestigious, small, independent, family owned wineries located in cool, rainy and foggy Green Valley by the Russian River. The founding partners, Audrey and Barry Sterling purchased the property in February 1976 and produced their first vintage of Estate Chardonnay in 1978. The winery officially opened in 1979 with the first vintage of Estate Pinot Noir on Barry Sterling’s 50th birthday. The first vintage for the Sparkling Wines was 1980. The name Iron Horse came from a train that stopped at Ross Station at the turn of the 20th Century. The logo, the rampant horse on a weathervane, came from an actual weathervane that was unearthed when they were leveling the ground to build the winery. Iron Horse today is one of California’s finest producers of sparkling wines. The wines have been served at the White House for the past five consecutive presidential administrations, beginning with the historic Reagan-Gorbachev Summit Meetings, which lead to the end of the Cold War. Jennifer Hallock will be present representing the winery and introducing you to the fine table wines as well as the sparklers.

2006 IRON HORSE CLASSIC VINTAGE BRUT, GREEN VALLEY
List price 29.95; our price 29.95
The most traditional of the Iron Horse Sparklers, this classy blend of 68% Pinot Noir and 32% Chardonnay is aged an average of four years on the yeast in the bottle. Wonderfully rich and creamy, it is quite typical of Green Valley of the Russian River Valley. This is the ultimate food wine because it goes with everything: sushi, fried, salty and spicy dishes, rich chicken soup, popcorn, you name it. Sip it with fruits and cheeses for a light dessert. 90 points from Wine Spectator.
2005 IRON HORSE WEDDING CUVÉE, GREEN VALLEY
List price 33.00; our price 29.95
The blend in this cuvée is 87% Pinot Noir and 13% Chardonnay. The nose is reminiscent of toasted hazelnut and ripe melon. In the mouth it shows tart green applesauce with a touch of cinnamon. This sparkler is great with so many dishes from smoked salmon to lamb chops and grilled steak. The 2005 vintage was a finalist for Food & Wine Magazine’s American Wine Awards.
2009 IRON HORSE CHARDONNAY, UNOAKED, GREEN VALLEY
List price 20.00; our price 17.99
This is one of the very best unoaked Chardonnays available. It is bright, crisp, mineral laden and richly fruity. This wine pairs well with seafood salads, fresh seasonal vegetables and with East meets-West cuisines that have difficulty carrying oak. This vintage was awarded 90 points by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
2009 IRON HORSE CHARDONNAY, GREEN VALLEY
List price 23.00; our price 19.99
Winemaker, David Munksgard, succeeds in focusing this varietal on delicious fruit. It has layers of complexity without resorting to more oak and malo-lactic fermentation which should simply be used as an acid balancing tool. The oak is beautifully integrated in the wine. You can enjoy this wine with roast chicken, crab cakes, salmon, halibut, lobster, grilled mushrooms, fava beans and buttered corn, etc. Wine Enthusiast Magazine awarded this vintage 92 points.
2010 IRON HORSE PINOT NOIR, GREEN VALLEY
List price 44.00; our price 39.95
The most distinctive character of Iron Horse Pinot Noir is that it goes beyond the bright fruit character typical of the Russian River area, showing deeper, earthier flavors that are special to Green Valley. This is a very expressive, stylish wine. It has extraordinary depth of character and yet the weight and texture of the wine are so light and silky, it just glides across the palette.
