This Saturday Kyle Snyder from Geyser Peak will be joining us to introduce the latest wines from that winery and to give us a sampling as well. Geyser Peak consistently garners some of the most prestigious awards in winemaking, including Winery of the Year and Winemaker of the Year honors. The wines typically are fruit-forward, food-friendly, and approachable; in other words, ideal for drinking now. The new visitor center on Westside Road is the gateway to both the Dry Creek Valley and Russian River Valley Appellations, just outside downtown Healdsburg. Kyle will be bringing a surprise wine for our perusal and offering it at a great price.
2014 Geyser Peak Pinot Grigio, California
LIST PRICE 14.99 OUR PRICE 11.99
The Pinot Grigio vineyards are located in both cool and warm climates, thus providing multiple options for blending the final wine. Cool locales bring structural acidity, mineral character, and floral aromatics to the wine, while warmer vineyard locations contribute tropical notes and weight on the palate. To minimize color extraction from the black skins, the fruit was harvested at night or in the cool morning hours and immediately pressed upon receipt at the winery to separate the juice from the skins.
2014 Geyser Peak Sauvignon Blanc, California
LIST PRICE 14.99; OUR PRICE 11.99
Grassier elements (reminiscent of the Southern Hemisphere style) are blended with citrus and mineral notes (most typical in the French style) and passion fruit and melon flavors (typical of the California New World style). As such, it is an interesting wine with lovely flavors and equally desirable as an apéritif or served with food.
2012 Geyser Peak Pinot Noir, California
LIST PRICE 18.00; OUR PRICE 14.99
Refined and subtle, Pinot Noir is a reminder that a red wine need not be highly extracted to be enjoyable. The winemaker plays up the natural tendencies of the grape to display medium red color, light body, firm acidity, varietally appropriate aromas and flavors (red currant, raspberry, cranberry, rhubarb, cedar) and uses a gentle hand with the French oak used in aging.
2013 Geyser Peak Cabernet Sauvignon, California
LIST PRICE 18.00; OUR PRICE 14.99
This new release Cabernet shows good length and texture with rich fruit and underlying spice making it an excellent partner to many cuisines. It is soft and imminently enjoyable with a wide array of foods or even sipping on its own. There are hints of black cherry, fresh blueberry, peppercorn and mocha.
2012 Geyser Peak Cabernet Sauvignon, Walking Tree Vyd
LIST PRICE 24.00; OUR PRICE 19.99
The diversity of soils in the vineyard sourced for the Walking Tree Cabernet range from volcanic to alluvial to riverbed, all contributing to an extra layer of complexity to the fruit grown here. Eastern-facing slopes get morning sunshine which cultivates structural tannins and refined fruit flavors while western-facing slopes bask in the warm afternoon sun and develop robust, juicy, dark fruit flavors. Look for flavors of nectarine, cherry, raspberry jam, black tea, and toffee. Pair with seafood with peppered crust, kebabs, stuffed peppers, herb coated vegetables and potatoes, and especially, gumbo! There is an interesting story how this vineyard got its name and you must have Kyle relate it to you.
