This Saturday we will be joined by Kim Knoell, Sales & Marketing Manager for Francoli USA. Francoli imports into the US an interesting array of Italian wines ranging from light quaffers to rich Brunellos. Kim, as one would expect, is quite knowledgeable on the subject of Italian wines and grappas. Francoli Distillery was founded in Ghemme in 1961 and though we do carry the fine grappas the company produces, Francoli is mostly known to us as representing other fine producers in Italy. Kim has said she will be bringing other surprises, as well, so join us for the fun.
2010 Masoletti Pinot Grigio, Trentino Alto Adige
LIST PRICE 12.95; OUR PRICE 9.99
Masoletti’s Pinot Grigio is produced north of Trentino, in its vineyards that stretch across Dell’Adige. There, the winegrowing tradition dates back to the time of the Rhetians, a proud and enterprising people who were among the first to produce wine from this grape. The area produces wines that are floral in aroma, fresh on the palate, fruitful in flavor and thirst-quenching in the finish. This wine has an aroma of white flowers and roses, leading to flavors of lemon, lime, apple and minerals. It is sensational with seafood.
La Fornarina Prosecco, Extra Dry, Veneto
LIST PRICE 11.00; OUR PRICE 9.99
This wine has an abundant froth and a fine and persistent perlage. It is very fine, bringing to the mind wisteria and acacia blossoms. It is delicate, fresh, and pleasantly fruity, finishing with the characteristic almond notes. Crisp and fruity, its taste is reminiscent of a light apple cocktail. It is ideal as an apéritif or with shell fish and light fish preparations.

LIST PRICE 18.00; OUR PRICE 15.99
This blend of 80% Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese Grosso) and 20% Canaiolo was vinified separately in stainless steel, then after maceration, aged for 6 months in Slovenian oak. The bouquet shows aromas of dark berry fruits and hints of violets. The body is smooth and flavored with elegant notes of dark fruits harmoniously blended with the soft tannins.
2008 Nottola Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Umbria
LIST PRICE 21.00; OUR PRICE 19.50
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of the leading Italian wines that have put Tuscany on the world map. Its name derives from the picturesque hill town of Montepulciano, south-east of Siena. This area is centuries old and dates back to the Etruscans, if not earlier. Vino Nobile is usually maroon-red in color and takes on more orange notes with age. It is characterized by its dark cherry and rich plum aromas, ripe strawberry and cherry fruit flavors, and a hint of tea leaves on the finish. It is also known for its medium body, firm tannins and bright acidity, making the wine particularly age-worthy.
2006 Poggio Basso Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany
LIST PRICE 40.00; OUR PRICE 37.00
In Tuscany, Sangiovese and its clones are the sole grape varieties permitted in the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and provide the backbone to Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and the popular wines of Chianti. This Brunello is classic and rich, showing a nice beefy edge to black currant fruit. Red cherry and black pepper notes abound and resonate through the rich, dark chocolate finish.
