The Columbia Valley AVA is the largest wine region in the state of Washington, in which over 40,000 acres are planted in vineyards. The Columbia Valley AVA includes 99% of the total vineyard area planted in the state of Washington. Grapes grown here include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling, Syrah, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Blanc. The unique climates of the area allow the Columbia Valley to produce wines that are fruit-forward, not to the extent of California wine, but which also retain some of the balance and structure of European wine.

2011 Tranche Cellars Slice of Pape Blanc
List price 25.00; Our price 19.99
This is Washington’s presentation of a Rhone style blend. As is typically French, the blend is Roussanne, Viognier and Marsanne. There is an austerity to the wine, but the body is there to stand up to many dishes. There are delicate melon and stone fruit aromas with white peach, lemon zest, almond blossom and a hint of flintiness. The wine is firm and textured on entry, with fleshy flavors of white peach and nectarine filling out the palate. Dry and focused on the finish, this white Rhone blend gives excellent mineral length and persistence.
