Yorkville Cellars is located in Mendocino County, 100 miles north of San Francisco. The vineyards were certified “organic” in 1986, eliminating synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers completely. Yorkville is unique in that it produces all eight of the main Bordeaux grapes each as a varietal wine: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenérè. We are sampling six of these this Saturday. The Yorkville representative will be here to pour and discuss the wines.
2015 Yorkville Cellars Sauvignon Blanc, Randle Hill Vineyard

It is interesting to note that the vines for this wine have descended from original cuttings in the 1880's of Sauvignon Blanc vines from the iconic Bordeaux vineyard Château d'Yquem. After crush, the grapes settled for 24 hours before being transferred to 100% seasoned small French oak barrels for fermentation and sur-lie ageing. This vintage is 97% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Semillon both from the Randle Hill Organic Vineyard. Grapes from this vineyard typically produce refreshing wines that hint of apples, pears, lime and minerals.
