Paso Robles has become one of California’s premier wine tasting destinations, with more than 250 wineries producing primarily red wines from warm weather loving grapes. The random selection for this Saturday has more to do with examining various varietals rather than being representative of 250 wineries. Examine any wine critic’s list of wines and you will be amazed at the very high ratings many of these wines receive. Of most importance is the wonderful value one receives in terms of quality level at affordable pricing when buying Paso wines.
2015 MCV TMZ White Blend
List price 30.00; Our price 23.50
This is a big, heavy, rich white wine. The blend of 2/3 Viognier and 1/3 Grenache Blanc is a beautiful example of what a Rhone Style White can be. It starts off with exuberant apple blossoms, jasmine and banana-chip aromas. There is a chalky grip to the palate, where apple, pear and white-peach flavors trend toward ripe guava. It will pair with a huge variety of foods or go perfectly by itself. 90 point rating
2016 Maddalena Rosé

This highly versatile wine pairs well with a wide array of dishes such as goat cheese salads and fresh shellfish.
2015 Niner Red Blend
List price 18.00; Our price 14.99
On the nose raspberry and pomegranate notes are accented by vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon and candied orange zest. The richness of the fruit follows through on the palate, highlighted by hints of earth and sawdust. Mocha inspired tannins and bright acid provide good structure for a persistent finish. The blend is: 35% Cabernet Franc, 14% Merlot, 14% Syrah, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Grenache, 8% Mourvèdre, 7% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot and 2% Barbera.
2015 Robert Hall Zinfandel
List price 17.00; Our price 12.95
Here is a full-bodied Zinfandel with a dense core of fresh raspberry and cranberry fruit intertwined with peppery spice. Soft tannins and moderate acidity nicely balance the robust fruit and spice flavors in this food friendly wine. Enjoy with a juicy steak, grill portabella mushroom, pungent cheese or decadent chocolate dessert.
2015 San Simeon Petite Sirah
List price 20.00; Our price 18.99
The Petite Sirah reveals deep, inky purple color. Aromas of blackberry, ripe plum, and pepper greet the nose. Barrel aging in French and American oak contributed notes of vanilla and spice. The mouthfeel is jammy and full-bodied with firm tannins providing structure as the flavors build to a lengthy finish. Enjoy with Oso Buco or short ribs or like fare.
2011 Opaque Malbec
List price 30.00; Our price 19.99
Dark fruit leads the bouquet of this bottling against a tapestry of dried tarragon and earthiness. It is wondrously smooth and silky in the mouth, with elements of blueberry fruit and other dark fruit, anchored by dried sage and other roasting herbs as well as dark chocolate and espresso flavors.
