Wine blends are gaining in popularity and for good reason; there is artistry in the ability to blend disparate elements and create a whole that is better than the parts. It is not always easy to produce a soft Cabernet or a well structured Merlot, but blended together the targeted quality is more readily possible to achieve. The wines selected for this Saturday are of excellent quality but limited quantity. We are clearing out pre-summer inventories and preparing for the purchasing of fall release wines. Let’s drink up what we have in anticipation of great things to come.
2012 Shannon Ridge Wrangler Red, Lake County

2013 Apothic Dark, California
LIST PRICE 12.00; OUR PRICE 9.99
Apothic Dark seamlessly integrates flavors of blueberry and blackberry with enticing notes of coffee and dark chocolate for a rich and smooth mouth-feel with layers of texture. A majority of the grapes came from Lodi and the blend is Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Teroldego. In the cellar, the grapes for Apothic Dark were fermented at a maximum of 90 degrees to increase the extraction of dark jammy fruit characteristics. Following fermentation, the wine was influenced by a variety of oak to add complexity and enhance the coffee and dark chocolate flavors.
2013 Francis Coppola Claret, Geyserville
LIST PRICE 17.00; OUR PRICE 12.99
In the glass, this Claret a (British term that relates to wines crafted in a traditionally Bordeaux Medoc style) shows good depth with a deep black cherry and plum character. The palate expands with elements of cacao, licorice and cracked spice that sit on top of blackberry tones. In the smooth finish, there are some stoney minerals and hints of black pepper spice, herbs, dried violets and currants. The wine is Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, backed by Petit Verdot, Malbec & Cabernet Franc
2012 Souverain Red Blend, California
LIST PRICE 16.00; OUR PRICE 14.99
Deep ruby-purple in color, this Cabernet based blend boasts bright and vivid aromas of roasted vanilla, mocha and baking spices which meet elegant layers of blackberry and ripe cherry flavors. The wine is richly framed by thick mouth coating tannins. The fully balanced fruit, tannins and acidity, lead to a juicy and lengthy finish.
2011 Murphy-Goode All In Claret, Alexander Valley
LIST PRICE 23.00; OUR PRICE 19.99
The dark cherry notes from the Merlot (42%) meld with the blackberry and thyme notes from the Cabernet Sauvignon (29%) to produce an intensely aromatic wine. The Petit Verdot (29%) adds richness, depth and notes of anise. Barrel aging in French oak lends vanilla bean and cedar spice, while rounding out the generous tannins and lengthening the finish.
