Sonoma County is known world-wide for its five main varietals: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Zinfandel. This Saturday we have assembled some recent favorites and the new Souverain arrival to illustrate the amazing quality level and pricing value for your enjoyment. We’ve added the very excellent blend from Buena Vista just to show off how beautifully the red varietals go together.
2013 Trentadue Sauvignon Blanc, Alexander Valley
LIST PRICE 14.00; OUR PRICE 8.99
The Trentadue family does not make a “grassy” style Sauvignon Blanc, their goal is a riper style with more tropical fruit and with melon and apricot aromas. The body is viscous and full, finishing sweet on the mouth although there is no residual sugar in it at all. Enjoy this wine chilled with your favorite seafood or fruit and cheese plates.
2012 Souverain Chardonnay, Russian River Valley
LIST PRICE 33.00; OUR PRICE 29.99
The rich, forward fruit of the Russian River coupled with 15 months of barrel age created multi-layered spicy and toasty complexities as well as the lovely rich mouth-feel that has become the hallmark of the Souverain Winemaker’s Reserve Chardonnay. Richly extracted lemon-gold color is followed by complex aromas hinting at apricot, star jasmine, crème brûlée and a bit of toasty French oak. This Chardonnay makes a seamless transition to a full bodied mouth that echoes the nose and adds a sense of tropical fruit framed by balanced acidity and a finishing creaminess from the extended lees contact time. Only 375 cases were made.
2012 Landmark Vineyards Pinot Noir, Overlook, Sonoma
LIST PRICE 25.00; OUR PRICE 19.99
Ripe plum, wild strawberry aromas lead into a supple, well-focused wine with gorgeous depth and expressive fruit. Dry, balanced acidity with silky tannins and notes of dark red fruit and spices, this wine is ready to drink now, but would also benefit from 2-3 years in the cellar. This elegant and well-balanced wine is an excellent accompaniment to duck, beef, salmon, and mushroom accented dishes. The Wine Advocate gave the wine a 90-point rating: “This is a soft and intense Pinot Noir from three different appellations that’s affordable and approachable. It’s well-made, with earth, candied citrus and Bing cherry notes intermixed with hints of anise and subtle oak”
2012 Barrique Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County
LIST PRICE 20.00; OUR PRICE 17.75
The nose is vibrant with violets, huckleberry and a touch of vanilla spice. The palate is elegantly wound with dusty tannins and a supple, velvet texture. The long, seamless finish, ebbs and flows with flavors of black currant, dark cocoa and forest floor.
2012 Seghesio Zinfandel, Sonoma County
LIST PRICE 19.00; OUR PRICE 16.99
Connoisseurs Guide: “Over the years, Seghesio’s solid Zins bearing the simple Sonoma County designation have been among the better values to be found, but this 2012 just might be the best bottling yet and is a deep, very well-focused, impressively extracted wine that is long on fruity muscle. While it takes on an edge of astringency at the finish, its tannins are not out of bounds and afford it the spine and the structure needed for aging, and service with the richer foods for which it is made will make its minor, last-minute heat next to unnoticeable.”
2012 Buena Vista Red Wine, Legendary Badge, Sonoma
LIST PRICE 32.00; OUR PRICE 29.99
Buena Vista Legendary Badge provides us a look at a bold combination of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Merlot. Ripe red fruit abound, dominating the palate while integrated tannins provide great structure and offer an arrestingly vigorous mouth-feel. Nothing laid back here!
