We are on Yelp as well.
Come by for a sampling of Zonin Italian wines being offered this Friday afternoon from 3:30 until closing. Joining us will be Matthew Reagan, Regional Manager for Zonin USA. He has selected wines that serve well for summer sipping including a Prosecco and some medium bodied reds. He will return for 3 more visits in August to introduce us to other wines from the large Zonin catalogue. The events will continue on the first 3 Fridays: the 1st, the 8th and the 15th.
The Zonin story dates back almost 200 years and seven generations. The new generation that is now taking the reins is conducting ongoing research in the vineyards and innovative commercial and marketing strategies, allowing the Company to capitalize on its strategy of expansion and acquisition. Today, the Company has over 1,800 hectares of land under vine in Italy, having selected only land with the potential to produce really fine wines.

This Prosecco comes from the Veneto near the northern border. The grape of Prosecco is called Gera. The must is obtained from gently pressed grapes. Half of the must undergoes an initial fermentation at 64°F while the remaining 50% is stored at 32°F as unfermented must. Following the traditional Charmat method, the must is combined and transferred into pressurized stainless steel tanks where the wine transforms into sparkling wine. The resulting wine has beautiful mineral notes with white flowers and stone fruits and on the palate it is dry with an abundance of almonds and fresh citrus notes. Prosecco goes with so many dishes including caprese salad, crab cakes, pan-seared salmon with lemon and basil, chicken pesto with angel hair pasta and works well with many fine desserts.
2012 Zonin Winemaker’s Collection Montepulciano d’Abruzzo
LIST PRICE 12.00; OUR PRICE 9.99
This is a smooth and elegant red wine made from Montepulciano grapes grown in the Abruzzo region in central Italy. The rugged hilly terrain of the Appennine Mountains provides the firm character to the grapes for this excellent wine. It has good complexity, with vinous and characteristic tones. It is dry on the palate, with delicate and soft mouth-feel and displays a fine and harmonious balance.
2011 Zonin Valpolicella Ripasso
LIST PRICE 20.00; OUR PRICE 18.99
Ripasso is a wine made using a technique where the dried grape skins leftover from a batch of Amarone are added to Valpolicella to go through a second fermentation. In case you’re not familiar with Amarone, it’s a really rich Italian wine made using exceptionally ripe grapes that are partially dried out prior to winemaking. This results in a wine that is extremely concentrated, high in alcohol and has flavors of dried fruits (e.g. raisins) and chocolate. It’s a really tasty wine, but it also tends to be a rather pricey wine. You can think of Ripasso as a “baby Amarone.” It has some of the same flavor characteristics, but it’s lower in alcohol, a little bit lighter-bodied and more affordable.
The Zonin Ripasso is made with 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and 10% Molinara grapes. The wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 1 year and in the bottle for another 6 months before distribution.
